Leerling van Heidegger en later Jaspers, nadat het nationaal-socialisme aan de macht komt, werkt ze voor zionistische organisaties in Duitsland en later Parijs. Ze vlucht naar de VS en geeft onderwijs aan diverse universiteiten.
